Privacy Policy
Last updated: 02 November 2026
HabariFupi ("we", "our", or "us") operates the HabariFupi website at habarifupi.com and the HabariFupi Android application. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.
By using HabariFupi, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please stop using the service.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information you provide
HabariFupi does not require you to create an account. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any other personally identifiable information directly.
1.2 Usage data
When you interact with our service, we automatically record anonymous usage signals including:
- Article views (to surface trending stories)
- Share events (counted, not linked to your identity)
- Bookmark events (counted, not linked to your identity)
- Your device's general geographic region (country level, derived from IP address)
This data is aggregated and cannot be used to identify you personally. We use it solely to improve editorial relevance and understand which stories resonate with our audience.
1.3 Technical data
Our servers receive standard HTTP request metadata when you load pages, including your IP address, browser or app version, operating system, and referrer URL. This data is held in server logs for up to 30 days for security and debugging purposes and is then deleted.
1.4 Data stored on your device
Bookmarks and reading preferences are stored locally on your device (using browser localStorage or device SharedPreferences). This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to our servers.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Deliver and improve the news feed and AI summaries
- Surface trending and relevant stories by region
- Monitor and maintain service security and reliability
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not sell, rent, or trade any information about you to third parties. We do not serve targeted advertising based on your behaviour.
3. AI-Generated Content
Article summaries are generated using Google Gemini, an AI service operated by Google LLC. Article content is sent to Google's API for summarisation. Google's use of this content is governed by the Google AI Terms of Service and Google Privacy Policy. No personally identifiable information is included in the content sent to Google.
4. Third-Party Content Sources
HabariFupi aggregates news headlines and content from third-party publishers via RSS feeds and licensed APIs. These publishers operate under their own privacy policies. We do not control their data practices.
5. Cookies
Our website uses only essential browser storage (localStorage) to remember your theme preference (light/dark mode) and bookmarks. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or any third-party analytics cookies.
6. Children's Privacy
HabariFupi is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
7. Data Security
All data transmission between your device and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS. We implement industry-standard security measures to protect our infrastructure. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your Rights
Under the Kenya Data Protection Act 2019, the Uganda Data Protection and Privacy Act 2019, and applicable data protection laws in Tanzania, you have the right to:
- Access information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Object to processing of your data
Because we collect minimal anonymous data and store preferences only on your device, most of these rights are satisfied automatically. For any data held on our servers, submit a request to privacy@habarifupi.com and we will respond within 30 days.
9. Data Retention
Aggregated usage counts are retained indefinitely as they contain no personal information. Server logs are deleted after 30 days. Bookmarks and preferences stored on your device are under your full control and can be cleared at any time through your browser or app settings.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
